La tesis principal de este estudio es que en las regiones afectadas por la expansión europea y su poder, durante los últimos siglos, se produjo una reacción que comportó dos formulaciones alternativas y en permanente discusión: quienes imaginaron que la mejor solución para sus sociedades consistía en tomar lo más posible desde los saberes del centro (centralitarios), y quienes imaginaron que, en cambio, era necesario profundizar en la propia identidad para encontrar allí soluciones a los nuevos desafíos (identitarios). En ambos casos su referencia era al centro: ser como el centro versus ser nosotros mismos, distinguiendonos del centro. Por esta referencia permanente al centro, lo definí como "pensamiento periferico, propiamente tal". Ello no agota, por otra parte, las expresiones del pensamiento del Sur y a esto he preferido llamarle "pensamiento de las periferias o pensamiento del Sur." |
